Hasbro was originally started back in 1923 as a textile company in New Jersey, USA. Its founders were two brothers - Henry and Helal Hassenfeld and its original name was Hassenfeld Brothers. 10-20 years later they expanded their range to pencil cases and school supplies and only in 1940 they produced their first toys - doctor and nurse kits. First Mr. Potatohead toy came out under Hassenfeld Brothers brand and was a big hit. The idea was purchased from an inventor George Lerner in 1952. By 1964 they started producing action figures from G.I. Joe. Those figures were designed to be marketed for boys who don't want to play with dolls. In 1968 the company changed its name to Hasbro Industries and started marketing products using its catchphrase "Boy Oh Boy! It's a Hasbro Toy! In 1982 Hasbro started another one of its successful franchises - My Little Pony. Since tehn the company also made toys under many brands including:
- Twister
- The Game of Life
- Yahtzee
- Parker Brothers
- Monopoly (the first successful commercial board game of all time)
- Tonka
- and many more...
